Hi, I’m Sorrel — Certified ABTC Animal Training Instructor, Puppy School Tutor and the face behind Sorrel Beth Canine Services, based in Bridgwater and the surrounding areas.

I started the business in 2023 after leaving a career in the Ambulance Service to finally pursue something I had wanted to do for a very long time: work professionally with dogs.

My approach to both training and walking is rooted in kindness, choice and an understanding of the individual dog in front of me. I use modern, evidence-based, reward-focused training methods and place a huge emphasis on helping dogs feel safe, confident and understood, rather than simply focusing on obedience.

My own dogs have also shaped me enormously, both personally and professionally. Living with rescue dogs and navigating everything from big emotions and reactivity to ageing, physical limitations and individual quirks has reinforced something I feel very strongly about: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to dogs. They deserve to be treated as individuals.

Since starting the business, I have continued to invest heavily in my education and professional development. I am a qualified ABTC Animal Training Instructor (ATI) and a certified Puppy School UK Tutor, alongside undertaking regular continued professional development to keep my knowledge and practice current.

I am also fully insured, Canine First Aid trained and enhanced DBS checked, and work within professional, ethical standards that put canine welfare at the forefront of everything I do. I’m fortunate to work alongside and learn from other accredited trainers and behaviour professionals, because I strongly believe that good dog training should be collaborative, evidence-led and continually evolving.

Sorrel Beth Canine Services began primarily with dog walking, but my long-term vision has always been to offer something much more comprehensive. Alongside my established walking services and puppy training, I have expanded the existing training side of the business to offer more opportunities for dogs and their guardians to learn together. This includes structured training walks in different environments, Training Groups and further training services designed around real-life skills.

I wanted to create a service where guardians can access thoughtful, ethical support throughout different stages of their dog’s life — from those first chaotic puppy months, through everyday training and enrichment, to simply providing them with adventures when their humans are busy. I’m not interested in quick fixes or making every dog fit the same mould. My aim is to help people understand the dog they have in front of them and give them the skills and confidence to enjoy life together. I also believe it’s vital to just have fun with your dog. We place so much expectation on ourselves and on our dogs that sometimes it’s important to strip all of that back. Take the pressure off, enjoy each other, be a bit silly, and focus on building that bond. Training doesn’t always have to feel like training — some of the best learning happens when you’re simply having fun together.

At home, I live with my lovely husband Phil and our dogs, Basil the Jack Russell and Poppy, our Belgian Shepherd cross. We lost our beloved Cecil, our little rescue Jack Russell in 2026, he will  always remain a very loved and integral part of both our family and the story behind the trainer I am today.
